Plot Synopsis
Oscar-winning film score composer Alexandre Desplat has already scored over 100 films including The Grand Budapest Hotel, Isle Of Dogs, The Shape Of Water, The Danish Girl, The Imitation Game, Harry Potter: Relic Of The Dead over the course of his illustrious career. Having already received numerous accolades, he won the grand slam of the Oscars, Golden Globes Awards and the British Academy Film Awards with his work on The Shape Of Water, proving that he is one of the most prolific musical composers in motion pictures and a master of the form. Not only does he have an encyclopaedic knowledge of classical music, he was also fond of jazz and bossa nova; his musical creations are multi-layered, textured and infused with world music elements. Deeply influenced by such forerunners as John Williams, Maurice Jarre and Nino Rota, Desplat understood that no matter if a film is realistic or stylised, music can infuse it with powerful emotions. This documentary explores Alexandre Desplat through his work, showing him in his private studio and attending a recording session with a symphony orchestra, in addition to featuring interviews with a host of top directors including Wes Anderson, Roman Polanski and George Clooney, who testify to the composer's ability to perfectly combine images and music.
